Description

The design of the 1:50 000 Map Series provides a clear and accurate portrayal of topographic information, with symbols and map content giving enhanced depiction of buildings, hill shading and a simplified classification of vegetation.

Douglas-Aspley National Park is the central feature of the DOUGLAS RIVER map. Containing deep river gorges and waterfalls, dry eucalypt forests and heathlands, and overlooked by a dolerite capped plateau, the Park is a refuge for many rare and endangered species. The historic town of Fingal, in the northern corner of the map, was first established as a convict station, and later distinguished as the headquarters of the State’s coal mining industry. The picturesque holiday and fishing town of Bicheno lies on the coast, being famous for its sandy beaches, turquoise waters and distinctive lichen-covered granite boulders.
